Careers at Cubitts

Two thirds of the population wear spectacles. Half wear them every day.

Yet our industry has become staid and uninspiring, characterised by badly made and fitted frames, confusing and overcomplicated processes, clinical and unfriendly environments, aggressive sales patter, and excessive wastage.

It doesn’t need to be that way.

Cubitts is dedicated to changing this three century old industry for the better. Exceptional design, proper sizing and fit, caring customer service, thorough eye examinations, innovative technology, commitment to a circular industry. These are the cornerstones of our mission.

With dedication, we believe we can make spectacles great again, and influence others to do the same. Help us take our beautiful little brand global, and drag this $130bn industry into the modern age.

Our team encompasses our expert optometrists, our customer experience in stores and HQ, operations and the workshop and our support teams

We were founded to build reverence around spectacles, and the power they have to transform lives.

In everything we do, we follow three values. Pioneering, Proud and For all.

Pioneering: We try to improve things, by doing things better or more simply celebrating both innovation and failure. We lead from the front and stay positive in the face of challenges and change.

Proud: We take pride in doing things properly. Deeply committed to the highest standards with a relentless drive for consistency in quality and detail.

For all: We treat everyone with the same warmth and respect, and without ego. You listen and communicate openly and honestly, respecting everyone’s opinion.

Spectacles are more than a product. They allow you to enjoy life in all its wonderful vibrancy.

Proselytise, with a filthy cackle. Make other people as passionate as you. Tell stories. Inspire.

We pride ourselves on an obsession with craftsmanship, quality, and design, and foster a creative environment that encourages innovation. We're also dedicated to growth and development, through regular team training sessions, workshops, and dedicated career paths.

We understand the importance of a happy team, so when you join Cubitts you'll also get access to a number of things:

Hinges always pinned. Don’t cut corners, don’t be sloppy, make things that last

Our DEI initiatives are at the heart of our organisational culture, guiding our policies, practices, and actions.

How We Act

At Cubitts, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives.

Additionally, we believe in the importance of transparency and accountability.

That's why we run yearly DEI surveys, providing insights into our progress, areas of improvement, and the voices of our employees.

Learning and Development

Cubitts Academy is designed to support you in all areas of development and to help you bring out your best self. It is a resource hub for you to tap into across all areas of learning, from educating yourself about spectacles to developing yourself into a future business leader. Led and delivered by our internal experts, this academy is on a continual journey towards excellence.

On top of that, to support our team's career development and goals, we introduced the Professional Development plan.

Every year we ring fence part of our Academy budget towards our team achieving professional qualifications.

Cubitts Academy is our approach to training and development. Bespoke to Cubitts and the individual. Driven by a goal to improve the knowledge and confidence of all team members.

Environmental Impact

The spectacle industry is three centuries old, and traditionally it hasn’t given much thought to sustainability. An industry that prioritises mass production over durability, sales over repairs, profit over progress.

And at Cubitts we know that by the very nature of making new things, we can’t be truly sustainable. But it is important to us that we always strive to ‘Do Good’.

That’s why we use the word REDUX to describe our approach to sustainability. A word that means ‘to bring back, or revive’ - it places our focus on how we can create enduring products, innovate with materiality and improve circularity.

But acetate wastage is the number one concern facing the spectacles industry. While non-petroleum based, it is still a semi-synthetic plastic, and draws on some of the earth’s natural resources. The spectacles industry sends up to 75% of its acetate to landfill. We think something needs to change.

We collected all the tiny acetate fragments from our workshop floor, each shed from a beautiful pair of handmade spectacles. We took this gamut of colours, a blind survey of the tastes of our bespoke customers, and created our kaleidoscopic REDUX slabs, each with its own unique pattern.

In 2023 we also certified as a registered B corporation, a global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.
