On faces

A Golden Age.
Each Golden Age frame is drawn from the late 1920s and 1930s, when London stood as the optical capital of the world. It was an age of smoky cafés and crowded pavements, of Clerkenwell workshops where new materials and experimental constructions reshaped the language of spectacles. Gone were the strict rounds and ovals of the past; in their place came sharper brows, softened squares, and daring depths.
To create our four new frames, we traced this restless spirit back through the archives. Visiting the College of Optometrists in London, and studying the traditional constructions and lens forms that once made the city’s optical industry revered around the world.
Each frame is built with a Burleigh joint, a distinctive interwar hinge, metal to metal, engineered for strength and clarity of line. Its precision lends an architectural sharpness, echoing the mechanical ingenuity of the era.
For the first time, each frame is made from the highest quality, Takiron acetate, first founded as Takigawa Celluloid in Osaka in 1919. Denser and harder than conventional acetates, its high-density composition gives each frame greater strength, while allowing for slimmer, more elegant silhouettes. Its surface polishes to a luminous lustre, revealing a depth and radiance that only intensifies with age.
Each frame is hand finished. Here the outside of a temple is sanded to match the curve of our Burleigh joint.

What's included

Included essentials
We never charge extra for necessities. Every Cubitts order includes everything you need to keep, care for, and clean your spectacles.
Our storage box, designed by Daniel Weil, is made from crisp Cairn 100% recycled kraft board. A stackable lid doubles as a tray; removable inserts turn it into versatile storage for keepsakes.
Inside you’ll find a refillable glass bottle of non-toxic, anti-fog lens cleaner, safe for all lenses, with complimentary refills available at any Cubitts store. After one year, we offer a complimentary frame service, and provide repairs, lens changes, and adjustments for life.
Precision lenses
Every Cubitts frame is glazed to order with ZEISS ClearView lenses, at no extra cost. Among the finest lenses available, they are up to 49% flatter and 16% thinner than standard lenses.
Each lens is finished with ZEISS DuraVision® premium coatings: antistatic, hydrophobic, anti-reflective, and UV-protective. With a Bayer ratio >10*, they guarantee the hardest, most scratch-resistant ZEISS lenses.
The anti-reflective layer reduces distracting reflections by 20%, improving clarity, while full UV protection to 400 nm blocks 100% of harmful UVA and UVB light.
All lenses are covered by a two-year ZEISS scratch guarantee.

Artist-designed cloth
Every pair of Cubitts spectacles comes with a heavy duty, 280gsm microfibre cloth - bigger than the biggest hand - to avoid causing an accidental smudge. To elevate this everyday object, and to discourage the widespread misuse of a cuff, we work with artists we admire.
Our current cleaning cloth is designed by Antony Gormley. MOON V captures a solitary figure, folded inward and suspended in darkness.

Aluminium case
Each frame comes with our signature aluminium case — ultra-lightweight, exceptionally strong, and inspired by vintage designs of Reinhold Kühn.
Made from 0.6mm 5052 grade sheet aluminium with a clear anodised finish, it is lined in soft charcoal microfibre, subtly revealed along the edge. Details are purposefully concealed: an integrated 9-barrel rolled hinge, stainless pin, and neodymium magnetic catch. Press-formed ribs strengthen the top and base, combining utility with understated elegance.
