A guide to tinted lenses

Your eyes are magnificent. Dress them appropriately.

A tinted lens is so much more than sun protection. It’s mystery. Intrigue.

All Cubitts lenses are made by ZEISS, pioneers in optical technology. Tinted or untinted, they're all UV400 rated, blocking out UVA and UVB light up to the top end of the spectrum. So your magnificent eyes stay magnificent.

When it comes to choosing a colour or depth of tint, it's up to you. How you want to see the world, and how you want the world to see you.

Core tints

We have three standard sun lenses, Green, Brown, and Grey. Absorbing 85% of visible light, they are suitable for the sun's brightest rays.

This trio of standard tints is also available with added polarisation, cutting horizontal glare from reflected light, like the glare from car windshields or wet surfaces.

Available as prescription and non-prescription sunglasses, with full UV protection.

Core fades

The same tints, with a gradient fade from 75-25% light absorption top to bottom. Made to block rays coming at you from above, while giving you clear vision below.

Available as prescription or non-prescription sunglasses, with full UV protection. Polarisation is not available with fades.

Custom fades

Call it faded glamour. A further quadtych of gradient lenses with a more eclectic colour palette.

Available online as non-prescription only, with a small range available with your prescription in store. All unpolarised, with full UV protection. Absorption level listed from top to bottom of lens.

  • Flame Fade, 80-50%
  • Palm Fade, 60-20%
  • Ocean Fade, 60-35%
  • Wine Fade, 75-45%

 Lifestyle tints

A range of tints with lower light absorption, in a kaleidoscope of colours. Suitable indoors or out. All unpolarised, with full UV protection, in non-prescription only.

  • Apricot, 25%
  • Dusk, 40%
  • Rose, 45%
  • Emerald, 55%
  • Yellow, 30%

Different tints offer different advantages. Red and orange lenses filter out blue light, reducing eye strain. Green lenses improve depth perception, making them suitable for sport and driving. Yellow lenses improve contrast and depth perception, especially in hazy conditions.

More importantly, a lens tint is about how you want to see the world around you. All these tints are available in any Cubitts frame in any colour. Create your own combination.
