Glasses for big heads

Capacious frames for considerable heads.

Those so blessed as to have a head larger than the rest often struggle to find a pair of spectacles that can match their physical intellect. Often end up with frames that grip the head too tightly, leaving marks on the nose or ears.

It doesn't need to be that way. Every head is entitled to a well fitting pair of spectacles, from kiwi to cantaloupe. Cubitts frames come in sizes up to Extra Large, and can be fitted for comfort.

We've collected some guidelines to finding a frame to fit a larger head, and curated a selection of spectacles that are up to the task.

A square frame is often the best fit for a wider head, elongating the facial features and introducing a sense of geometry.

A wide head is blessed, more often than not, with a wide nose. A larger frame with a wide bridge is advised, or else a frame with adjustable nosepads for customisable comfort.

How to prove your mighty head and mammoth intellect.

Spectacle size is based primarily on the width of the front of the frame. The more considerable cranium will require a wider front. You can easily measure this yourself.

A simple tape measure or ruler is all you need. Measure (with the ruler or tape measure straight, not curved against your face) from your left temple to your right. Or right to left, if you’re feeling contrary.

Alternatively, if you have another well sized pair of spectacles, you could measure these instead, from hinge to hinge.

If it's over 140mm from end to end, you're best suited to glasses in Large and Extra Large.

Grandma, what wide spectacles you have.
