A Cubitts guide to winter tints
Apricity. It's a little used word for the warmth of the sun in winter. A word we'd like to bring back into fashion.
As the nights draw in, don't be too quick to mourn the loss of the sun's rays. In fact, the winter sun, being lower in the sky, can be the most dazzling of all. So it’s important to take the correct steps to shield your eyes from the glare. Like wearing SPF for your skin, you should make sure your eyes are protected against damaging UVA and UVB rays.
Cubitts offers a range of tints, softer than a summer shade, suited to the darker months. These lenses have a lower light absorption level, meaning they can be worn inside and out, without the need to take your sunglasses on and off in response to the fickle weather.
Any Cubitts frame is available with any tint, with all protective coatings and UV protection included as standard. Choose a frame and colour, and select your tint in in the checkout.
Shop sunglasses to get started.
Apricot has an absorption level of 30%, 'balmy' on the Cubitts lens warmth scale.
The classic Cubitts sun tints (Green, Brown, and Grey) are available in a softer gradient fade, from 75-25% top to bottom. This allows you to keep your sunglasses on as the sun moves in and out of the clouds, while still protecting your eyes. Available with or without your prescription.
Warmer hues enhance depth perception in snowy conditions, a good choice for skiers and alpinists.
For soft non-prescription tints try Rose or Dusk. For darker hues available with your prescription, opt for Wine Fade or Flame Fade.
A yellow tint is a good choice in winter, improving contrast and depth perception, especially in hazy conditions. We offer two non-prescription tints, Yellow and Apricot.
