Caring for your Cubitts

Spectacles after an unscheduled overnight in the oven. The fish pie survived. The spectacles did not.
How to Care for your Cubitts
Caring for your Frames
1. Give them a home
When they’re not on your face, keep your frames in their protective case — especially when travelling. It shields them from scratches, knocks, and the daily trials of life.
2. Keep them off your head
Balancing your spectacles on your head can stretch the temples and put undue strain on the hinges. They’re made for your nose, not your crown.
3. Keep them out of paws’ reach
To you, a pair of Cubitts is a finely tuned optical instrument. To your dog, cat, or teething child, they’re a chew toy. Store them somewhere safe when not in use.
4. Rinse away the sea
If you’ve worn your glasses in the sea, rinse them gently with fresh water as soon as you can, then dry with a clean microfibre cloth. Salt water, once dried, can leave corrosive deposits on both frame and lenses.
5. Book your annual service
After a year of wear, we’ll invite you to a complimentary frame service — an ultrasonic clean, polish, hinge service, and refitting. You can also order a Frame Service any time online or in-store.
6. Repairs, not replacements
Accidents happen — but a broken hinge or scratched lens doesn’t need to mean the end. Our workshop can repair most Cubitts frames, including snapped temples, cracked bridges, and deep scratches.
You can book a repair here, visit us in-store, or email info@cubitts.com with a photo of the damage.
A little care goes a long way, and with the right attention, your Cubitts will serve you faithfully for decades.

Caring for your Lenses
To the novice spectacle wearer, the quest for a thumbprint-free lens can feel endless. But with a little know-how, keeping your view crystal clear becomes second nature.
1. Cloth matters
Always use a microfibre cloth. T-shirts, jumpers, and tissues may be handy in the moment, but their fibres and dust particles will leave tiny scratches. Over time, these will damage the lens coatings and reduce clarity.
2. A touch of moisture works wonders
For the best clean, use a slightly moistened cloth. A quick spray of Cubitts Lens Cleaner lifts away smudges and fingerprints with ease.
Avoid washing-up liquid, window cleaner, or household sprays — these can strip or damage your lens coatings.
3. Never face-down
Lenses are for looking through, not leaning on. Resting your spectacles face-down on a table or desk is a fast route to scratches and scuffs.
4. Watch the heat
Sudden temperature changes can cause your lenses to ‘craze’ — a network of fine cracks in the coatings that makes vision cloudy.
To avoid this:
- Don’t leave them on a car dashboard in the sun
- Avoid saunas
- Keep them away from radiators and open ovens
- Be cautious around BBQs in summer or open fires in winter
Once a lens is heat-damaged, there’s no way to restore it — it’s well-done forever.
5. When the world changes, so can your lenses
As your prescription changes, we’re here for the journey. We offer lens replacements for most frames — Cubitts or otherwise.
You can:
- Order a lens replacement online (UK & US only, with shipping paid both ways)
