ZEISS sun lenses
A good pair of sunglasses are so much more than sun protection.
They are mystery. Conspiracy. Intrigue.
A good pair of sunglasses should offer clarity of vision, high quality UV protection, and durability. So it’s only natural that those things should be included:
Like our spectacles, our sunglasses come with prescription single vision ZEISS ClearView lenses as standard, covering the majority of low to mid level prescriptions. They offer a larger zone of clarity, and are thinner and flatter than the average lens.
Your optometrist will advise you if you need a specialist lens, which we offer at an additional cost.
All of our sunglasses are UV400 rated, meaning they block out all UVA and UVB light up to the top end of the spectrum. This means your magnificent eyes stay magnificent.
This hard, durable layer protects your sunglasses from scratches and scuffs. We still recommend you keep them in their soft pouch or case when they’re not on your head, and not to take them bungee jumping.
Single vision lenses correct vision at one field at near (reading or close work), intermediate (computer use), or distance (general use). These lenses are available online and in store.
If you want a pair of Cubitts sunglasses with no prescription, we’ll still include all of the above coatings and any optional extras. Available online and in store.
Otherwise known as progressive lenses, these are marvellous works of optical technology that can offer up to three prescriptions in a single pair of sunglasses. This allows you to do close-up work (like reading a book), middle-distance work (like working on the computer), or distance viewing (like driving) without needing to take off your sunglasses.
Varifocals are a beautifully complex piece of engineering for your eye. You can learn more in our guide to varifocal lenses here.
If you’re looking for something a bit extra, we can offer you a range of premium lenses suited to your needs:
Polarised lenses reduce the glare of light reflected from horizontal surfaces, such as wet roads or snow. They include a densely gridded filter that absorbs horizontally oscillating light. This may be something to consider if you’re a driver, fisher, sailor, skier, or oracle perched on the tip of a snow capped mountain.
Polarisation is a personal preference with no added UV protection, so it is worth trying in store.
Also known as Transitions, these lenses offer the convenience of sunglasses without having to switch from your spectacles. They change from clear to tinted when exposed to UV light. They return to clear when indoors in under 30 seconds. The closest thing to magic we sell, but apparently it’s just advanced technology.
They can be purchased at an additional cost in store or via our customer service team, but not online.
